Funeral services for Carl C. Stein, 77, pioneer baker of Portland, will be held Saturday at 11:30 A.M. at Finley's Morninglight Chapel. He died Thursday at his home 2867 N.W. Cumberland road, after several months illness.

Born in Germany, he came to Portland when he was 17 years old, founding Stein's bakery more than 50 years ago, and retiring in 1941. He became well known on the coast for his rye and pumpernickel breads.

He was a member of the Elks lodge, Sons of Herman, Oregon Bakers club and chamber of commerce.

Surviving him are the widow, Ida; his children, Mrs. Mary Goetz, Helen Stein, Mrs. Louise Wilkinson, Mrs. Doris Young and Paul Stein; six grandchildren, and his sisters, Mrs. Fred Schuelein and Marie Stein, all of Portland.
